The proprietor of the New York Mets was not happy when he woke up Wednesday morning to the information that free agent pitcher Steven Matz had signed with a diverse group.

Steve Cohen, a single of the most outspoken owners in Key League Baseball, fired off an offended tweet at 8:51 a.m. Wednesday, admonishing Matz and his agent for signing a agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals without the need of initially consulting the Mets.

“I’m not happy this early morning,” Cohen tweeted. “I’ve by no means seen these unprofessional habits exhibited by a player’s agent. I guess text and promises don’t make any difference.”

Matz, 30, hit free of charge company for the 1st time this offseason just after a single 12 months with the Toronto Blue Jays. He performed his initial six seasons with the Mets, who drafted him in the 2nd round in 2009.

The Mets traded Matz to the Blue Jays in January for a trio of prospective clients.

Multiple MLB insiders have described that Cohen thought there was an understanding among the Mets and Matz’s agent that the pitcher would give his previous team a probability to match any offer.

Matz has reportedly agreed to a 4-12 months, $44 million deal with the Cardinals.
